About Me

My name is Sarah and I started Destrehan's Daughter in January 2010 as a style and outfit of the day blog.  At heart I am a story teller and that has a lot to do with how this blog got its name.  Back in high school and college, I worked as a costumed tour guide at Destrehan Plantation.  I wore period costumes and led groups through the house and the history of the area where I lived.  Some people said I looked a bit like one of the daughter's portraits, and since I consider Destrehan my hometown, I combined the two here, Destrehan's Daughter.  The costumes let me escape and fueled my love of both menswear and girly, feminine touches in clothing.  The tour guiding fueled my desire to capture stories through writing and video about life and those great moments we experience in the every day.

Checking out lots of other style blogs, gave me the confidence to contribute to this great online conversation.  I have focused on building inner confidence, documenting my weight loss, and my general love for clothes. I have gone from trying some of the time to feel put together to putting my best foot forward most days of the week.  The blog has developed a nice rhythm of daily outfit photos with the occasional post on body image, fashion statements, personal inspiration, and life challenges.  I manage to put up about five or six posts a week with monthly features on my shopping habit and my clothing wish list.  Right now, I am working on almost weekly posts about my plan to create a healthy active lifestyle and better eating habits.

I try to keep evolving and learning from the conversations I create here on the blog and with other "bloggie" friends on their sites.  If you come visit Destrehan's Daughter regularly, you will see a lot of photos of me standing in front of my front door and around my yard in clothes that I try to get pretty good deals on.  The clothes will probably keep changing up until I reach a size that I am comfortable with.  That means I get to keep shopping for awhile, so no complaints from me most of the time.  I will tell you a little about my social life here in the New Orleans area.  You will hear about OBB (my oldest bestest buddy), DF (my dearest friend), Dr J (a friend getting her doctorate),  ELLE (a nickname short for her real name), my husband also known as "the husband" and the rest of my friends and giant extended family.  If you have any additional burning questions, just send me an email at DestrehansDaughter@gmail.com.
